Rare TALL Vintage 70s Cork Chrome Table / Floor Lamp Mid Century Modern Lighting
Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a rare cork lamp – it’s the mother of all cork lamps! This lamp is gigantic – we’re not certain if it was intended to be a floor lamp or a table lamp – we suppose it can be used either way. The base is cork and chrome, while the tall cylindrical shade is a light cloth-like material over a plastic interior. The lamp has an inline on/off switch that is located in the electrical wiring. The lamp still retains its original UL yellow sticker label located by the socket (see photo). With the cylindrical shade attached, the lamp stands an enormous 58 tall. The distance from the bottom of the cork base to the finial is approx. The cork base measures approx. 14″ tall x 10″ in diameter. The shade alone measures approx. 47″ tall x 10.75″ in diameter. Condition: Given it’s age, we’d say the lamp is in overall good condition. There are some cosmetic flaws, mainly with the shade, which we’ll go over in a minute. The cork and chrome base appears to be free from having any issues – there are no chips, cracks, breaks, dents, dings, rust, oxidation, chunks of cork missing, etc. The electrical wiring looks to be original to the lamp, and it’s in very good shape – there are no frays, splits, exposed or brittle wires, etc. As with all vintage lighting, we always recommend having the wiring checked by a licensed professional prior to long-term use. Moving onto the shade, there are a number of things worth pointing out. First, the upper ring of the shade has detached from the shade material, and is being held in place with tape. The tape seems to be doing the trick; however, one might want to consider something that’ll be more stable in the long-term. Secondly, there are some old moisture marks around the top of the shade material (see photos), as well as some other small random marks here and there (again, see photos). We have not attempted to clean any of them to see if they’ll come out, so what you see, is what you’re getting. If we were going to keep the lamp, we’d simply replace the outer material of the shade. The inner plastic lining of the shade appears to be in decent shape – there does not appear to be any problems with the material. Pair Vintage Mid Century Danish Modern Cork Table Lamps Drum Shades
These 3-way lamps and shades are tons of fun and wrapped in cork. Between the two of them, the lamps have three areas where it looks like some cork came out, leaving behind a hole. They may have originally been that way, I really dont know. Lamp bases and necks appear to be made of wood, and there is some finish missing on the neck of one lamp. This would be super easy to blend out with stain in 30 seconds. The drum shades look amazing for the most part, but they do have some condition issues. One of them has a fairly large faint stain on the outside top of the shade. The insides of the shades are brittle plastic, and have cracks and discolorations, but these do not seem to show thru on the outside, even when the lamps are turned on. The shades look awesome when the lamps are lit! The lamp exteriors are textured. There are no finials, but I can give you a couple of contemporary finials. Vintage Pair of Mid Century Modern WOOD & CORK Table LAMPS. My feedback speaks for itself. This comes to us from one of our estate homes. It has been properly used and cared for by it’s previous owner and it looks great as shown. Condition: Both lamps light up, both cords are dried and cracked in spots, Will need to be re-wired. One cord has been taped up. Both lamps have some color fading. One lamp has some cork loss, as shown – See photos for details.
