Vintage Mushroom Lamp Bill Curry Stemlite Design Line Mid Century Modern Light
Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a vintage mushroom designed by Bill Curry for Stemlite / Design Line Inc. The metal tulip base is a beige color. There is an on/off rotary knob switch located on the metal base just below where the shade rests. The underside of the base has its original UL label, and there is also a number sequence stamped into the metal, along with what appears to be a symbol (see photos). A great vintage addition to any mcm interior setting! The lamp stands approx. 11.25″ tall x 12.5″ in diameter. Condition: Overall, given its age, we’d say the lamp is in very good condition. The base shows some minor paint loss that can be left alone or easily touched up (see photos). The glass shade is free from chips, cracks, breaks, repairs, etc. The electrical wiring is in good shape – no frays, splits, exposed and / or brittle wires. Vintage Stemlite Mushroom Lamp Mid Century Modern by Bill Curry Design Line Inc
Stemlite, the debut product of Bill Curry’s Design Line, was introduced in the 1960s as the first lamp eliminating the base-plus-shade concept. All the bases and glass globes in the Stemlite series were interchangeable, allowing for endless combinations. The style quickly gained popularity and was later emulated by others. The Stemlite collection draws inspiration from nature: the streamlined die-cast metal base resembles a tough yet delicate stem of a tulip, carrying the beautiful glass shade like a fragile bud waiting to unfold. The simplistic yet impressive design language of the Stemlite lamps can be easily combined with all styles of decor from classic to eclectic to experimentative, making them an exceptional fit for public spaces as well as private. Bill Curry studied in Los Angeles Art Center, and after graduating worked as an ad-man and Art Director before creating his own company for design furniture and lighting, Design Line, in 1962. Bill Curry is best known for his iconic collection of Stemlite lamps from the 1960s, universally celebrated for their innovativeness and unique attractiveness. Lamp is in working condition. Scratches and scuffs to the white enamel on the base. Cord shows some signs of wear. Some speckles on glass. Other age appropriate wear present. Vintage Bill Curry Mushroom Lamp
Vintage Bill Curry Mushroom Lamps, set of 2. Original hand blown glass. Designed by William Edwin Curry (Bill Curry), American designer associated with the mid-century modern school of design. Good condition, both working. The difference in light quality if the picture where they are turned on is caused by different light bulbs. They currently have low wattage bulbs in them, but were designed for 3-way bulbs. One of them has a small scratch (see photo). Vtg MCM 15 Laurel Type Smoke Mushroom Chrome Table Lamp Bill Curry for Stemlite
Here is a very hard to find 1970s mid-century table lamp designed by Bill Curry for Stemlite, El Segundo, California. It measures 15 inches tall with the shade on. The shade measures 13 inches in diameter, and the base measures 7 inches in diameter. It has a smokey glass mushroom shaped shade, similar to the earlier Laurel lamps, and a beautiful chrome base with an elegant slender shaft. There are some small light spots on the chrome. I did not clean the lamp or try to remove the spots. It is in the exact condition it was in when we acquired it. I tried to provide photos of the spotting, but it did not picture well. It is in 100% original condition with all labels intact, original wiring and non-polarized plug. Please review the photos for a complete description. All photographs are part of the description. We are always obtaining interesting pieces and have a seemingly endless number of jewelry, antiques and collectibles. We are not jewelers. We do not know color or clarity, and do not know natural from heated, enhanced, or synthetic. We either rely upon marks for metal purity, or test for gold content. Gorgeous mid-century modern design frosted globe lamp with cast aluminum stem base. We believe this is a Bill Curry designed Stemlite, based on our research of other examples and the design of this particular lamp. Lamp stands about 12 in tall with a 8 inch diameter globe and 7 in diameter base. Works as it should. Finish on base is in good shape, with a few minor imperfections as pictured.
