MADE IN ITALY AROUND THE 1950s. RETAINS THE ORIGINAL SHADE AND HARDWARE. Born: 1900 – Chioggia, Italt. Died: 1984 – Venice, Italy. Known for: Ceramics, glass art design. Born in Chioggia, Italy, Flavio Poli studied at the Istituto d’Arte di Venezia as a ceramicist. In 1929 he began working as a glass artist at the Industrie Vetraie Artistiche Murano or IVAM glass factory where he designed mostly sculptural pieces. In 1934 he joined the firm Barovier Seguso Ferro and became artistic director and a partner in the company after just three years. In the 1950s he began experimenting with Sommerso glass, a technique achieved by overlapping different layers of glass in a variety of colors and thicknesses. The resulting pieces received international recognition as superior examples of 20th century Murano art glass and Poli was awarded the Compasso d’Oro prize in 1954. At the height of his career, Poli won five Grand Prix awards at various Milan Triennales and his designs were exhibited in numerous editions of the Venice Biennale. Poli left Seguso in 1963 to form a division of the Società Veneziana di Conterie e Cristallerie. He died in Venice in 1984 and his works can be found in numerous public and private collections around the world including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Murano Glass Museum, Venice and the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia. Sculptural lamp made of purple glass cased into blue glass and twisted to form this statement piece. Rewired with a switched B22 bulbholder, braided Italian gold cable and a 3 pin UK plug. Vintage Ribbed White Opalescent Italian Murano Art Glass Table Lamp Seguso Italy
Vintage Venetian Ribbed Opalino Art Glass Lamp Description and Item Information. Up for sale is this fabulous, vintage Murano art glass lamp. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This lamp is made up of ribbed opaline white art glass. The base and cap have a gilt finish. The lamp is approximately 34 inches tall to the top of the finial. This does not have a shade. To the top of the socket, the lamp is about 23 1/4 inches tall. At the widest point, the lamp has a width of approximately 6 1/2 inches. The glass is in two sections, with a total height of about 14 1/8 inches. Unpacked, the lamp weighs 6 pounds 14.9 ounces. It accepts one light bulb. It has green felt beneath. This vintage lamp would be a gorgeous addition to a glam Hollywood regency style decor, or it would look superb with midcentury modern furnishings. This lamp is made from Italian glass, circa mid-20th century. The glass is unsigned, but it is possibly Seguso of Murano, Italy. The lamp looks very good overall, with light wear. The glass has no chips or cracks. The base, cap, and brass parts have light wear. The green felt beneath has minor losses. As with all used electrical items, this should be inspected or rewired by a professional before use, even though the visible electrical components look okay cosmetically. Terms of Sale 1. This absolutely amazing hand crafted piece of Venetian glass is 31.5″ tall and 24″ diameter with 12 base. It can easily be converted to electric if desired the arms are hollow and its all set just needs wiring done. Designed as a 5 lamp piece this is currently used as a four lamp but the brass fitting will allow for an addition as well. No cracks, chips ect.
